PULAU INDAH

POWER PLANT

Powering Klang Valley Forward

POWERED BY PURPOSE

Powering Klang Valley from the right place, with the right people, using the right technology and resources.

Pulau Indah Power Plant (PIPP) is a 1,200MW power plant in Pulau Indah, Selangor, Malaysia. It’s a natural gas powered Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) with an efficiency of more than 60%, much higher than its coal or oil equivalent.

Costing an estimated RM3.35 billion to build, PIPP will go through 5 phases of construction namely design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and testing before commencing its commercial operation on January 1 st, 2024.

Once completed, it will be connected to the National Grid to support the increasing power demand in the Klang Valley, which accounts for 43% of total electricity demand in Peninsular Malaysia.

Pulau Indah, Klang is approximately about 60 km southwest of Kuala Lumpur and was chosen due to its close proximity to the Central Region which is the largest load centre.

GENERATING EFFICENCY

A Combined Cycle Gas Turbine’s (CCGT) main turbine generates electricity with natural gas. The resulting heat will be harvested to generate steam for a secondary turbine.

FUELED BY THE PEOPLE

Once completed, PIPP will create more job opportunities for the local community.

FUELING PRODUCTIVITY SUSTAINABLY

We use natural gas because it generates more energy with significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to coal or other fossil fuel alternatives. Natural gas is widely regarded as the bridge to a carbon-neutral environment. The Plant’s 9HA.01 gas turbine leads the industry by having the lowest gas consumption per MW at an efficiency of more than 60%, thus enabling cleaner and more cost-effective conversion of fuel to electricity.

COMPLYING WITHOUT COMPRIMISING

Based on EIA’s report and ITA’s assessment, PIPP complies with:

Ambient Air Quality

Malaysia Ambient Air  Quality Standards and WHO Ambient Air Quality Guidelines

Emission Limits

Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulation 2014

Operational Noise Emissions

DOE’s Guidelines for Environmental Noise Limits and Control, 2019

Cooling Water Discharge

International Standards in terms of absolute temperature, temperature increase & chlorine

 Flora and Fauna

No species of any significant conservation value or listed in the IUCN red list

ALWAYS AT FULL STEAM

To ensure PIPP’s equipment remains reliable, a comprehensive set of preventive and corrective maintenance policies will be in place. Non-technical inputs are also taken into consideration to improve fund management and maintenance performance benchmarking among peers.

The main operating strategy is to ensure that all facilities function as intended critical throughout its life-cycle. Additionally, to increase revenue and margins, we will optimise performance with visibility, insights, decision support and advanced edge controls.
